SPURS WEEK AT SxSW

For the 2023-24 NBA season, the San Antonio Spurs traveled north on I-35 to Austin, Texas for a weeklong event to cultivate the next generation of fans beyond their home base crowd in San Antonio. This fan experience, which featured watch parties, basketball games for fans and two Spurs games at the University of Texas' Moody Center, was the longest traveling tour in the organization's 51-year history. Rally Department was tasked with merging two iconic Texas brands together to help engage with Spurs basketball fans through H-E-B's  "Creamy Creations" ice cream products. Our goal was to bring the seasonal H-E-B and Spurs crossover commercials to life for an interactive fan experience during Spurs Week at South by Southwest in Austin.  

THE CHALLENGE

Rally Department concepted and produced an activation experience that was deployed at eight different locations over a span of nine days. Along with being able to sample H-E-B’s “Creamy Creations” ice cream, fans had the opportunity to measure up to Spurs’ superstar Victor Wembanyama by seeing how many Creamy Creations cartons tall they were as well as testing their vertical jump. We also offered a virtual-reality experience that gave fans the ability to try on a digital wig like the various Spurs players wore in the H-E-B commercial, through a Snapchat filter. The overall aesthetic blended colors from both brands and offered a street-style vibe with a colored chain-link fence, an acrylic basketball board hoop and a “salon” station with a globe-lit mirror.
